School of Digital Media Design formed Andy Crossland
How would you like to get a start in careers such as radio and television news, film production, design, and advertising etc? Well in San Diego, you can do this as a student in high school. Kearny High School has been transformed into now 4 campuses with a school featuring a media and design emphasis. The school recently gained national attention by a visit from Oprah Winfrey and one student was selected to appear on a show segment. As a former Kearny High School graduate, I joined the school advisory board over a year ago to help the students. The School of Digital Media and Design focuses on establishing an environment where students interested in multimedia, visual arts and production will develop high-level communication, technological and critical thinking skills. Classes emphasize multimedia and collaborative projects to prepare students for lifelong learning, a fulfilling career, and a successful future. The School of Digital Media and Design incorporates many special features: - Students are divided into two "institutes." Ninth and tenth graders encompass the Junior Institute and eleventh and twelfth grade students encompass the Senior Institute to ensure increased personalization. - Advisory Periods support the educational, social and career goals of students - Students utilize management skills to work on real-world projects organized around their personal interest. - Technology is used across the curriculum. The School of Digital Media and Design has two primary goals: 1. To increase the number of college-ready SDCS high school graduates, particularly among low-income and minority population. 2. To improve students' post-secondary options, whether college, technical training or the workplace. Students can take as electives the following: - Set Design - Fashion and Costume Design - Advertising and Product Design - Film Production and Editing - Radio and TV Production and Editing If you would like to help the school, the students and staff would be very grateful.
