Quick Questionnaire: Rick Griffin Rick Griffin has worked in journalism, advertising and public relations in San Diego for the past 30 years. Since 1988, he has operated Rick Griffin Public Relations. * * * -What's your favorite place? Anyplace with my wife of 25 years (except shopping). -What's your favorite movie? It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963, MGM). -What book has had the most impact on you? Two books, the Bible and "The Disciplined Life" by Richard Shelley Taylor. -Which words or phrases do you tend to overuse? Two phrases: (1) "Why am I not surprised;" (2) "But, wait, there's more." -What's your addiction? Yardwork at home on Saturday afternoons. -Whose shoes would you like to walk in for a day? I would have liked to walk in the shoes of the priests who carried the Ark of the Covenant (Joshua 4); when their feet touched the Jordan River, the water divided and 40,000 soldiers walked across on dry land (pretty cool). -If you could have any other profession, what would it be? Deliver the top-of-the-hour newsbreak on KUSI-TV. -What topic gets you the most fired up? Three topics: (1) Biased journalists masquerading as unbiased; (2) Disregard for AP style; (3) Seeing a client's name in the headlines. -What one hidden truth would you most like to uncover? My two favorite mysteries of life are: (1) Why children didn't come with instructions: (2) How some editors and reporters decide on what makes news. -What's your motto? Three favorites: (1) "It's not about you;" (2) "Opportunities multiple as they are seized;" (3) "Life is a grindstone, whether it grinds you down or polishes you up will depend on you."
