It is summer time and that means the San Diego Press Club Journalism Awards must be just around the corner. Start sorting through all of those great pieces of your finest work from the last year to see which ones will be the entry (or entries!) that earns you the recognition you deserve as one of the finest journalists in town. The Call for Entries is in the mail.

This is also a good time to clean up and throw away some of that clutter that tends to accumulate over the year. Now why would I be thinking about that on a hot summer day? Because Carol and I (and our four pack rat children) are moving for the first time in 17 years. How about some college textbooks from the 1980s? Anyone need a lava lamp?! It is scarier to think that we actually bought or received some of these things as gifts. Our favorite charities will probably give us a map to the Miramar landfill rather than accept some of this stuff.

One very important item you may find in organizing your workspace is your San Diego Press Club membership renewal. Don't misplace it or procrastinate! Send it in today to ensure that you won't miss out on the J-Awards or any of our great events planned for the next year. You'll be a member of one of the largest Press Clubs west of the Mississippi. Hard to believe? Not really. Our community of communicators, whether working media, public relations professionals, academics, students or retirees, really has a lot to be proud of, include participation in this Press Club. Other clubs envy our competition and our roster of activities. Don't miss out on being part of it.
