President's Column

The President's message will be short and sweet this month as I am on a strict deadline and it will be entirely my fault if your copy of the Foghorn isn't received until mid-August!

First, a reminder that the San Diego Press Club Annual Journalism Awards program will be Thursday, October 27th at Shelter Pointe Hotel & Marina on Shelter Island. If you joined us for any of our previous events there, then you know what a great place it is for food, fun and some socializing ñ oh, and maybe you (or someone you admire) will take home an award (or two).

Next, be sure to send in your ballots for electing our board members. Andrew Kleske and the Nominating Committee have developed a remarkable slate of board members for your consideration. This is also an opportune time to let us know about any great ideas you have for the board and our Club Manager to make the Press Club even better.

And what would I do without Terry? She reminded me to ask you to please encourage your friends to become members. Let them know about all of the many benefits ñ not only discounts on awards entries - but an event almost every month. From fascinating and informative News Forums to our prestigious new "Press Club Salutes" celebrations to purely social mixers and road trips. Stay tuned to the Foghorn for more news about the new Food and Wine committee. One thing I have learned is that the Press Club sure knows how to have fun.

Whew! Another "to do" item off the list as I prepare for our family vacation to London and Paris. (Yes, dear, I do stay up on current events but we are still going to London) Hopefully it will be memorable, but uneventful!
