Great Chuey's Ghost!!! By Chuck Fox, SDPCJA Chairman OK, so it is not much of a secret anymore we are going to Chuey's on October 26, 2006. I realize that some of you have the notion that sitting in a hotel ballroom, eating free range anything with field greens dressed with lemon infused spring water and a dessert of ladyfingers floating in a prune juice reduction and listening to an emcee making vain attempts to make "Third place, second place, first place" sound exciting 40 or 50 times in a row is a thrilling evening. With apologies, the rest of us want to enjoy the evening. So it is back to the roots of the venerable Press Club. Chuey's has recently celebrated its 50th year in San Diego and it has been a hangout for the press cognoscenti for many of those years. In fact it was the meeting place for the Club for many years. So, as was published in the last issue of this glorious rag "return with us now to those thrilling days of yesteryear" The format is going to change, too. Instead of a few minutes of "Meet and Greet" followed by table sitting and polite silence the rest of the evening, attendees will be able to wander, chat, view some outstanding work and graze at the buffet line filled with Chuey's fantastic repast. Winners will be announced via large screen TVs, with their work displayed around the room. Special awards and "Best of Show" will be presented from the stage as always and category winners will receive special name badges with their accomplishments displayed on them. I encourage all members to get their entries in early and to pass the word to those non-members who have exemplary work to enter and join the Press Club. Things are changing and it is about time for all good writers to come to the aid of the party!
